Summary
Drive engineering excellence and operational performance across our processing network. As the Regional Engineering Manager, you’ll lead capital planning and execution for both big bird and small bird facilities, managing multiple projects. You’ll partner with cross-functional teams, coordinate internal and external resources, and keep complex timelines on track to deliver safe, reliable, and cost-effective facility improvements. Strong communication and interpersonal skills will let you influence stakeholders, solve problems, and remove barriers to project success. This role is ideal for a decisive, hands-on engineering leader who thrives on driving results across a dynamic, multi-site operation.
Principal Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Develop and lead overall technical strategies and tactics focused on safety, compliance, quality, profitable growth, and cost.
- Work collaboratively with Operations leadership and the Vice President of Engineering to execute capital projects that deliver on safety, compliance, quality, profitable growth, and cost.
- Manage capital projects including facility infrastructure, equipment, production systems, technical maintenance support, environmental systems, and energy utilization.
- Conduct project meetings with cross‑functional teams to ensure scope and business objectives are met on time and within budget.
- Master the stage‑gate process to ensure project success.
- Build project timelines, clearly state objectives, and identify risks.
- Develop capital investment strategy, including budgets for future capital projects, and compile them into a multi‑year capital budget.
- Ensure infrastructure is maintained to meet or exceed operational needs, including associate safety, code compliance, electrical, mechanical, boiler, and HVAC systems.
- Train project managers and others in proper project management techniques.
- Provide technical leadership to project teams and elevate issues to management to keep projects on track.
- Report key project management metrics.
- Maintain accurate and current floor plans and equipment layouts.
- Collaborate with safety, FSQA, production, maintenance, and environmental managers.
- Extensive travel to various sites - approximately 20%.
Minimum Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Agricultural, Civil, or Structural Engineering, or extensive related work experience.
- 10+ years of related work experience with a track record in problem‑solving, negotiating, managing people, and establishing and meeting schedules.
- Ability to frequently travel to remote plants and project sites.
- Computer skills, including AutoCAD and Microsoft Office.
Preferred Education and Experience
- 12 years of related work experience.
- Technical experience in construction, refrigeration, poultry processing equipment, project management, and equipment layout.
Physical Requirements and Environmental Factors
- Work activity occurs on project and plant sites, including troubleshooting and redesigning existing systems.
- Ability to move equipment occasionally.
- Ability to access files, supplies, and equipment.
- Work activity occurs where processing equipment is located.
- Work environment includes office settings, construction sites, and climate extremes found in poultry processing operations, feed mills, hatcheries, and wastewater treatment facilities.
- Ability to move throughout the complex and all facilities.
When in a plant environment:
- Exposure to wet and moist floors, including metal and plastic grating surfaces.
- Exposure to temperatures ranging from 28°F to 100°F, with both ambient and 100% humidity.
- Handling product at temperatures between 25°F and 50°F.
- Exposure to noise levels ranging from 50 dB to 110 db.
- Exposure to chemicals used in poultry and food processing facilities.
- Must wear and use protective and safety equipment as directed by the company.
- Must be able to work on and around operating equipment.
- Must be trained in and use Lockout/Tagout procedures.
