Summary
The Fleet Transportation Manager will manage day to day operations and oversee approximately 100 Perdue CDL Class A drivers for Live Haul, Feed, and Chick/ Egg operations (Dressed Haul as needed) to support timely and safe delivery. Including onsite supervision and dispatchers for the live operational areas.

Principal and Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Oversee daily transportation operations for the area to include the following responsibilities:
- Provide leadership to Supervisors ensuring they have tools and skills to lead drivers successfully
- Interview, hire, train, develop, and evaluate Associates (including drivers)
- Promote and evaluate Associate growth and development
- Ensure Associates meet performance expectations, coach and educate Associates as needed
- Ensure adequate staffing to meet business needs: schedules (tours), attendance, PTO, Holidays, and weekend coverage.
- Ensure retention numbers are met for said area of business
- Exceed daily on-time delivery requirements and internal & external customer expectations
- Establish goals and projects to reduce delivery expenses, increase utilization, and drive continuous operation improvement
- Manage, approve, and audit driver and associate payroll, schedules and time off to meet operational needs to include weekend and holiday coverage
- Conduct safety audits on company, customer, and vendor facilities and report our findings, potential improvements, and follow-ups on improvements
- Conduct and lead driver quarterly meeting schedules
- Establish, report, and promote continuous improvement on weekly KPI’s. Develop and implement initiatives for improvement.
- Establish and foster Associate, internal, and external relationships
- Provide support for Special Events as needed
- Support strategic direction of the department and company
Safety management to include the following:
- Establish a safety culture where Associates put safety first to prevent injuries and accidents
- Establish safety goals and implement improvement plans
- Manage and exceed safety KPI’s
- Conduct monthly safety round tables and/or meetings with drivers and Associates in some capacity
- Accident and injury management including investigation and reporting
- Oversee DOT compliance to include reviewing hours of service and daily equipment inspection,
- Review and administer driver safety violations
- Conduct weekly asset and facility safety inspections
Fleet Asset management to include the following:
- Managing daily tractor and trailer pools for each location with a priority on improving driver to truck and truck to trailer ratios to achieve and sustain a competitive advantage with outside vendors.
- Manage rental equipment including tractors and trailers to company requirements
- Audit and inspect equipment weekly for damage and utilization
- Audit and track company equipment to include EZPass and ELD tablets

Education & Experience
REQUIRED: Prior senior leadership / management experience
PREFERRED: 5-10 years of transportation, distribution or logistics leadership experience; a bachelor’s degree in a related field; strong interpersonal, communication and project management skills, ability to utilize technology
Environmental Factors and Physical Requirements
- Flexible work schedules (both days and hours) to handle weather, holidays or other service disruptions
- 24 hours, 7 days a week on-call basis for matters involving customer service or safety of drivers
- Ability to travel frequently to and from facility locations
- Position is mostly sedentary but may require occasional moving to other offices, buildings, and truck yards.
- Exposed to office equipment and inside & outside weather conditions, dust, animal materials
