Summary
Operation, cleaning, and maintenance of various water and wastewater equipment. Additionally, other duties as deemed necessary by the Lead Wastewater Operator or Environmental Manager.
Schedule: Normal working hours are 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM or 8:00 PM to 8:00 AM, rotating shifts on a biweekly schedule. Overtime scheduled as needed by management. Weekends are worked every two weeks
Principal and Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Operation and maintenance of water and wastewater treatment equipment.
- Have a valid driver’s license to drive company vehicles to collect samples off plant site.
- Can climb 20 to 40 feet on ladders and stairs when required.
- Obtain company certification to drive a forklift within one year.
- Clean as required for safety and housekeeping in and around tanks, pumps, building and lagoons.
- Work in organic sludges as required.
- Operation and maintenance of sludge belt press.
- Handle acids, bases, and polymers when required.
- Safety data sheets (SDS) and training provided.
Minimum Education
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Strong reading, writing, math, and analytical skills.
- Ability to obtain Virginia DPOR Wastewater Works Operators License Class 4 within two years of selection for the position.
Environmental Factors and Physical Requirements
- The work environment includes but is not limited to an office, a poultry harvest facility, and a wastewater treatment plant.
- When in a poultry harvest facility or a wastewater treatment plant:
- Exposure primarily consists of wet and moist floors which include metal and plastic grating surfaces.
- May be exposed to temperatures of 28 – 100°F with both ambient and 100% humidity.
- May handle product 25 – 50°F.
- May be exposed to noise ranges of 50 – 110 dB.
- May be exposed to all chemicals found in poultry, food, processing, and wastewater plants.
- Must wear and use protective and safety equipment required for the job and as directed by the Company.
- Outside walking in all weather conditions.
- Travel throughout the complex and to other facilities as needed.
- The ability to climb ladders and lift loads up to 50 pounds.
