Summary
Champion a culture where safety and security come first. In this role, you will lead safety and security initiatives across the assigned Perdue Agribusiness Complex, driving continuous improvement and helping build a world class safety culture. As a trusted technical expert, you will partner with operations leadership to develop and implement effective safety, health, and security solutions that protect people, strengthen compliance, and support operational performance. Principal Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Lead all safety & security efforts for assigned Complex (crush, refining, grain production operations and associated transportation truck, rail, barge, ship).
- Manage, develop, execute, implement, and promote a safety culture and behavioral based safety program throughout complex in conjunction with the safety director.
- Partner with the Perdue Live and Manufacturing Ops safety teams to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and corporate standards.
- Lead facility security team/guard force in managing security processes to include developing/administering site security practices and policies, supporting and tracking required key performance indicators including training objectives, and timely completion of site surveys and audits.
- Develop and deliver training programs to engage and educate leaders across the organization on safety management systems, promoting a culture of safety excellence and continuous improvement.
- Provide technical expertise for cross functional teams to ensure safe operational processes and capital/engineering projects.
- Collaborate with functional experts in vehicle safety, corporate security, environmental, PSM, and other areas to align facility activities and objectives.
- Provide interpretations for OSHA, NFPA, DHS, DOT, and other pertinent regulations to ensure processes and policies comply with applicable laws and regulations.
- Continuously interact with the hourly work force to promote safety awareness, drive associate engagement, and ensure a world-class safety culture exists within the operations supported.
- Work aggressively to resolve safety issues and concerns.
- Lead site safety business plan development by analyzing relevant data and tracking/reporting facility and corporate KPIs/metrics.
- Validate plan’s actions through internal safety and security auditing tracking findings through closure.
- Provide training support to complex personnel to ensure that all required safety and security training is effectively completed on time.
- Ensure effective investigations on all safety and security incidents are completed, participating actively during complex and high impact investigations.
- Ensure root cause is determined and appropriate corrective actions developed, tracking recommendations to closure.
- Utilize incident data to develop action plans to address hazards and emerging trends.
- Liaison for 3rd party assessments, audits, & inspections, i.e. insurance carrier, local fire department, risk engineering firms, OSHA, DHS, etc.
- Conduct regular site inspections and audits at supported assets in assigned region/complex, identifying safety and security risks, implementing corrective actions, and driving continuous improvement in workplace safety.
- Build relationship with occupational health/medical; to improve associate safety, wellness, and case management for supported sites.
- Be actively involved in worker’s compensation, assisting the occupational health nurse/third party administrator in effectively managing all open claims.
- Keep the management team informed of any safety, health, and security related issues and/or concerns identified within scope of responsibility.
- Stay abreast of industry’s best practices, emerging trends, and regulatory updates in safety and security management, incorporating relevant advancements into operational practices.
- Assist engineering and facility personnel with contractor safety management including the contractor selection process, contractor training and observation of compliance activities.
- Assist contractors with incident investigations and third party claims as needed.
Minimum Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental, Safety & Health, or Industrial health Management, Occupational Health & Safety, Management, Engineering, or Agricultural Science.
- 5+ years’ experience in Safety and Security Management and demonstrated experience leading a world-class safety program which has achieved <1.0 TRIR.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
- Industrial and grain handling safety & health knowledge.
- Thorough knowledge of OSHA requirements.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Excellent grammar and writing skills.
- Proven ability to lead and influence others. Ability to establish positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Communication and interpersonal skills to effectively manage and motivate employees and communicate objectives and action plans.
- Ability to research pertinent facts, data, and other information from internal and external sources.
- Proficient use of computer and corresponding programs – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OHM, SAP.
- Ability to implement behavioral-based safety techniques to improve/maintain safety performance.
- CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain.
- Ability to speak English.
- Experience leading teams to achieve safety and security objectives.
- Proven track record of supporting multiple facilities and driving continuous improvement in safety and security performance.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements, industry standards, and best practices related to safety, vehicle safety, and security management.
Preferred Education and Experience
- Master’s degree in Environment, Safety & Health, Business, or Science.
- Ability to speak Spanish.
- Multi-site safety management experience.
- Professional safety or security certifications from Certified from the Board of Safety Professional (CSP) or the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH).
- Bi-lingual capabilities and experience working in grain or oil production facilities.
Physical Requirements and Environmental Factors
- Position requires occasional moving to other offices or buildings.
- Travel required approximately 5-15% including requiring overnight stays.
- May need to access files, supplies, and equipment.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
- Able to move freely throughout the Agribusiness facilities to include climbing vertical heights (0 - 150').
- Exposure primarily consists of unpaved outdoor surfaces and floors which include concrete, metal, and plastic grating surfaces.
- May be exposed to temperatures of 0 degrees to 100 degrees Fahrenheit with both ambient and 100% humidity.
- May be exposed to noise ranges of 50 db. to 110 db.
- May be exposed to all chemicals used in poultry, feed, oil/grain processing facility.
- Must wear and use protective and safety equipment required for the job as directed by the Company.
