Summary
As a Transportation Supervisor for Live Operations, this position is will provide leadership and guidance and is responsible for managing all phases and functions of Perdue Transportation’s professional Drivers for Live Operations. Including operations and administration in support of the safe and timely delivery of livestock, eggs, and feed for the Transportation Department. Provide exceptional customer service at all levels including Associates, Internal/ External Customers, Venders, and Partners. This role has the responsibility for the management and administration of operations for Perdue Farms and Agri-Business. This will include 50-100 drivers in multiple locations and all applicable assets (i.e. tractors, trailers, etc.) in yard ranging from $750,000 to $1.5M. The Transportation Supervisor is responsible for managing all phases and functions of Perdue Transportation, Inc. including both operations and administration in support of the Live Operations department needs including Chick, Egg haul, feed and live haul for the Transportation Department. Perdue Transportation operates 24/7, this position requires evening and weekend accessibility via phone.
Principal and Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Manage local safety systems for driver safety to ensure drivers are meeting or above safety compliance goals. Coach drivers that are below company expectations.
- Manage compliance with DOT / FMCSA standards for driver requirements.
- Complete audits on driver fleet managing safety expectations aligned with DOT/ FMCSA and Perdue Fleet Safety standards.
- Facilitate new hire orientation and complete necessary steps for new hire ramp in time, including ride along, 30/60/90 day follow ups and Perdue PVP Animal Welfare training as required.
- Review and manage daily KPI report on fleet efficiency, documentation, and all daily driver expectations. Provide constructive feedback to drivers in person in alignment with SOP on driver accountabilities.
- Manage local fleet Accident guidance. Provide a thorough investigation for the weekly Incident Review Board. Provide timely feedback in person to driver on corrective counseling – No less than 7 days old.
- Complete new hire interviews in person including a drive test. Establish a Fleet Retention plan with current challenges and goals on how to retain new / current drivers.
- Build relationships with your Associates, provide coaching/ feedback on driver habits / safety concerns. Complete ride-alongs to evaluate opportunities for improvement.
- Conduct equipment inspections as directed.
- Any other duties that may be assigned by Leadership.
Education
REQUIRED: High School diploma or equivalent.
PREFERRED: Bachelor’s degree or 10 years of relevant experience.
Experience Requirements
- 3-5 years of transportation, distribution or logistics experience.
- Strong communication, project management, Organization, and interpersonal skills.
- Prior supervisor/management experience.
- Qualified candidates must have excellent organizational, analytical and interpersonal skills, general knowledge of FMCSA DOT guidelines, and detailed geographical knowledge of the Eastern U.S.
Environmental Factors and Physical Requirements
- Flexible work schedules (both days and hours) to handle weather, holidays or other service disruptions
- 24 hours, 7 days a week on-call basis for matters involving customer service or safety of drivers
- Ability to travel to and from facility locations and regionally for department meetings (overnight travel 15-20%).
- Position is mostly sedentary but may require occasional moving to other offices or buildings.
- Exposed to office environment and equipment.
- Frequently exposed to outside weather conditions: heat, cold, wind, etc.
- PPE required: Garage, Farms, Yard (company grounds), parking areas, and roadway.
- Often in a yard and garage environments including moving hazards, machinery, wet/ dry conditions, tools, dark and well-lit conditions.
- Frequently in harvest, production, and/or mill environments. Numerous hazards include machinery, moving components, heights, platforms, wet/ dry, dust, and hot/cold conditions
- Frequently in a farm environment including outside conditions (hot/ cold, wet/ dry) dust, livestock, machinery and equipment present
