Summary
The purpose of the Refrigeration Lead is to ensure the safe operation of the plant’s ammonia refrigeration systems and other plant utilities, make needed repairs to the equipment in the department, open the ammonia system for repairs and supervise Refrigeration Operators and Technicians.
Principal and Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- The Refrigeration Lead will be required to understand and follow standard operating procedures and operate the facilities refrigeration plant while meeting or exceeding the Federal and State PSM standards.
- Perform electrical trouble shooting, read electrical drawings, and have familiarization with commercial air conditioning and different types of plumbing
- Complete schedule preventative maintenance (PMs) on all refrigeration and air compressor equipment.
- Make all scheduled rounds to monitor and ensure the safe operation of the plants Ammonia Refrigeration System
- Apply Process Safety Management (PSM) regulations when operating and maintaining the refrigeration system (PSM/RMP training mandatory).
Minimum Education
- EPA Certification
- RETA/IIAR Certification
- 3 years of experience with industrial refrigeration/ammonia systems
- High School Diploma, GED or equivalent
- Technical training 2-4 years with certification
Experience Requirements
- Must have a strong work history, worked for one employer for at least 1 year within the past 3 years
- Must have demonstrated in their current and/or previous work experience, a possession of good verbal and written communication skills.
- Must be physically able to perform a variety of tasks under adverse conditions safely.
- Must know and follow facility policies and procedures.
- Must be able to work overtime.
- Must be able to lift 50lbs.
- Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation as specified in the job description available in Human Resources.
Experience Preferred
- Previous experience leading a team
- Must be able to pass a Basic Mechanical/Electrical Aptitude Evaluation given by a Maintenance Supervisor.
- Must be able to read or learn to read drawings (ex. blue prints)
- Must be able to attend and accomplish several different certifications (like Hazmat, Hazwopper & refrigeration schools in and out of state).

- Must be able to stand for several hours
- Ability to work in wet and extreme cold and hot conditions
- Ability to lift up to 99 pounds without mechanical assistance.
- Ability to withstand exposure to all physical and chemical elements of the processing environment.

Environmental Factors
- On the plant floor activities such as troubleshooting and re-design of existing systems are routine.
- May need to move equipment occasionally.
- May need to access files, supplies and equipment.
- Position requires an associate to have the ability to move throughout the complex and all facilities.
- When in a plant environment: Exposure primarily consists of wet and moist floors which include metal and plastic grating surfaces.
- May be exposed to temperatures of 28 degrees to 100 degrees Fahrenheit with both ambient and 100% humidity.
- May handle product 25 degrees to 50 degrees Fahrenheit. May be exposed to noise ranges of 50 db to 110 db.
- May be exposed to all chemicals used in poultry, food, processing facility.
- Must wear and use protective and safety equipment required for the job as directed by the Company.
