Summary

The Coleman Livestock Team Manager is responsible for the management of the Coleman Livestock Team, for making sure that Coleman is supplied with the necessary amount of incoming, qualifying live hogs and for taking the lead on all farmer focused activities.  This is a role that requires someone who is self starter, can manage their time effectively, is willing to travel extensively and understands that the livestock business often requires work outside of typical business hours.  This position reports to the Vice President of Live Hog Operations for Perdue Specialty Meats and will work cross functionally with all departments across the Coleman Natural Brand.

Principal and Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manage the day to day activities of the Coleman Livestock Team to ensure that all required team tasks are achieved.
  • Manage, plan and forecast short and long term hog supply needs, ensuring adherence to the agreed upon fiscal year plan in terms of headcount and hog cost.
  • Develop contract payment mechanisms and language, negotiate hog contracts and ensure producers and Coleman Natural abide by the terms of said contracts. 
  • Recruit and develop interested producers who wish to join the Coleman Natural program, in accordance with brand needs for hog supply.
  • Ability to identify, diagnose and solve for the typical challenges that arise with any business.  Continuous improvement ability and desire is a must.
  • Will serve as the first point of contact for farmers and will work with current farmer roster to quickly resolve any issues that arise in a fair manner. 
  • Represent Coleman Natural at industry events and internal meetings.
  • Perform audits and farm visits as necessary.
  • Ability to travel, expected travel will be 40-60%. 
  • Other activities as assigned.     

Minimum Education

  • A four-year degree in Animal Science, Ag Business or related field; or 10+ years of industry experience.  Team leadership experience a strong plus.  

Experience Requirements

A strong working knowledge of the hog industry, including but not limited to:

    • Farrow to finish hog production
    • Niche market/High Animal Welfare standards
    • Hog markets/contracting/swine operations financials
    • A strong network of industry contacts
  • Availability to work outside of typical business hours, including weekends as necessary.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook, as well as ability to learn company database.
  • Strong communication skills via phone and email as well as in person.  Ability to effectively communicate with farmers, staff and senior management via written words and presentations.

Environmental Factors and Physical Requirements

  • Position is mostly sedentary but may require occasional moving to other offices or buildings.
  • May need to move light equipment or supplies from one place to another.
  • May need to access files, supplies and equipment.
  • Work activity is in an office, open-partitioned, cubicle environment
