Summary

Keep our operation moving from the ground up. As a Powered Industrial Vehicle Technician, you will inspect, maintain, and repair a wide range of powered industrial vehicles including forklifts, pallet jacks, cherry pickers, and reach trucks to ensure they operate safely and efficiently. You will use your technical expertise to troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic issues while performing routine preventive maintenance. Working closely with Warehouse, Operations, and Maintenance teams, you will play a key role in reducing downtime, boosting productivity, and maintaining a safe, reliable work environment. Schedule: 1st shift, 7am-4:30pm, Mon-Fri

Principal Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Inspect powered industrial vehicles regularly to identify and address mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, or hydraulic issues.  Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical problems in forklifts, pallet jacks and other PIV equipment. Document maintenance and repair activities in service logs and computer systems.
  • Perform preventive maintenance tasks such as battery replacement, battery chargers, chains, belts, oil changes, filter replacements, bearings, rollers, and fluid checks. Repair and replace faulty components, including brakes, bearings, chains, rollers, fluid, etc.  Follow manufacturer guidelines and maintenance schedules for each type of PIV.
  • Adjust and calibrate vehicle parts to ensure optimal performance and safety.
  • Conduct safety inspections to comply with regulations and prevent accidents. Test vehicle systems following repairs.
  • Request accurate ordering of replacement parts.
  • Communicate with Warehouse, Operations and Maintenance to understand equipment issues and prioritize repairs.
  • Keep work areas clean and organized to ensure a safe and efficient workspace.
  • Participate in training programs to stay up to date on new technologies and industry best practices.
  • Work all required work schedules. Day travel to nearby locations is sometimes required.

Minimum Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED High School Diploma or GED and Equivalent Experience. 
  • 3-5 Years experience in vehicle maintenance, particularly with powered industrial vehicles.
  • Strong proficiency in diagnosing and repairing mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems on industrial vehicles. 
  • Understanding safety regulations, manufacturer guidelines, and maintenance procedures specific to power industrial vehicles.
  • Ability to troubleshoot issues, make repairs efficiently and ensure vehicles are operating safely.
  • Attention to detail in documentation.
  • Clear communication skills and ability to influence others.
  • Maintains Perdue Farms QEW Certification. 
  • Commitment to Continuous Learning to achieve increasing levels of expertise. 

Preferred Education and Experience

  • 2-year Technical Degree in Engineering or Industrial Maintenance.

Physical Requirements and Environmental Factors

  • Sitting, standing, walking, climbing, kneeling, reaching overhead and/or at shoulder level, lifting (50 lbs.) and/or repetitive tasks throughout the day.
  • Position requires occasional moving to other offices or buildings.
  • May need to access files, supplies, and equipment.

When in a plant environment:

  • Exposure primarily consists of wet and moist floors which include metal and plastic grating surfaces.
  • May be exposed to temperatures of 28 degrees to 100 degrees Fahrenheit with both ambient and 100% humidity.
  • May handle products from 25 degrees to 50 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • May be exposed to noise ranges of 50 db to 110 db.
  • May be exposed to all chemicals used in poultry, food, processing plant.
  • Must wear and use protective and safety equipment required for the job as directed by the Company.
