Summary

Are you ready to launch your career as a future environmental leader at Perdue? As part of our Environmental Operations Management Trainee (Pathways) Program, beginning in June 2027, you’ll embark on a 24-month leadership development journey designed to prepare the next generation of environmental leaders. Through hands-on learning, meaningful projects, structured rotations, mentorship, and leadership development, you’ll gain real-world experience in environmental compliance, permitting, reporting, sustainability, and facility operations while building the technical and leadership skills needed to make a lasting impact. During your first year, you’ll explore key environmental and operational areas and develop a strong foundation in responsible, sustainable business practices before transitioning into an environmental leadership assignment. Your second year will accelerate your growth through personalized development, mentorship, cohort learning, and advanced opportunities designed to prepare you for long-term success. The salary range for this position is $64,480 - $71,250 per year with scheduled increases at the sixth and twelfth months of employment.

Principal Essential Duties & Responsibilities

EOMT I 0-6 months

• Participate in structured rotations across key environmental and operational areas to build an end-to-end understanding of facility operations, environmental programs, interdepartmental communication, and the connection between environmental decisions and business results.
• Learn and apply Perdue’s expectations for associate safety, environmental compliance, regulatory requirements, and operational standards while working alongside experienced environmental leaders and facility associates.
• Develop working knowledge of environmental compliance programs, including wastewater, air quality, biosolids, hazardous waste, recycling, solid waste, potable water, oil handling, SPCC, FRP, EPCRA, and RCRA through hands-on learning and observation.
• Support daily environmental activities under the direction of experienced leaders, gaining exposure to inspections, sampling, monitoring, reporting, permit requirements, compliance plans, recordkeeping, and issue escalation.
• Build relationships with frontline associates and cross-functional partners while demonstrating teamwork, integrity, respect, accountability, and a willingness to learn.
• Use environmental data and observations to identify opportunities for improvement and contribute to assigned projects that support compliance, sustainability, water and energy conservation, waste reduction, cost, or environmental performance.
• Participate in Pathways learning, mentoring, business tours, leadership development sessions, and cohort activities to strengthen communication, business acumen, technical knowledge, and leadership capabilities.
• Demonstrate increasing independence throughout the first six months by applying learned concepts, communicating observations and recommendations, and taking ownership of assigned tasks and development goals.

EOMT II 6-12 months

• Continue structured environmental learning while taking on increased responsibility for day-to-day environmental activities and preparing for transition into a full-time environmental leadership assignment at the completion of 12 months.
• Support facility environmental programs by helping coordinate daily work, communicate priorities, reinforce safety and compliance expectations, and promote a safe, responsible, respectful, and accountable work environment.
• Monitor environmental performance, inspections, sampling, reporting, permit requirements, records, and facility activities; identify issues and work with environmental leadership and cross-functional partners to resolve problems and minimize compliance risk.
• Apply knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulations, permits, compliance plans, and company standards to support consistent compliance across wastewater, air, waste, water, recycling, oil handling, and other assigned environmental programs.
• Assist with environmental training, communication, and development of associates and cross-functional partners, progressively building the skills required to influence, educate, and hold teams accountable for environmental and safety requirements.
• Participate in and, as development progresses, take ownership of continuous improvement and sustainability opportunities that improve compliance, water or energy efficiency, waste reduction, recycling, resource conservation, cost, or overall environmental performance.
• Communicate environmental updates, performance results, compliance risks, project progress, spills or releases, challenges, and opportunities to leaders and cross-functional partners; prepare and deliver timely reports and presentations for internal and external stakeholders as appropriate.
• Develop working knowledge of departmental supplies, chemicals, equipment, assets, and cost drivers while supporting purchasing, inventory, and cost-control activities within established guidelines.
• Demonstrate readiness for an Environmental Manager I or comparable environmental leadership assignment by independently leading defined environmental activities, making sound decisions within established guidelines, escalating issues appropriately, and balancing compliance, safety, sustainability, people, cost, and operational priorities.
• Continue participating in Pathways cohort learning and leadership development, including topics such as continuous improvement, associate safety, environmental stewardship, leading teams, business acumen, decision-making, and presenting to leadership, while applying those learnings to the workplace.

Minimum Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university completed within 24- months of the Pathways Program start date.
• Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.

Preferred Education and Experience

• Degree concentrations in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Biological Science, Biology, Chemistry, Natural Science, Engineering, Sustainability, or a related field.

Physical Requirements and Environmental Factors

• Must be able to fulfill responsibilities in office, processing plant, hatchery, feed mill, wastewater, and other agricultural or industrial settings, as applicable to the assigned location.
• Ability to move freely throughout facilities, including walking for extended periods, climbing stairs or vertical heights, and moving or carrying light equipment, tools, or supplies up to 50 pounds as needed.
• May be exposed to varying temperatures, humidity, noise, chemicals, wet or uneven surfaces, and other conditions associated with agricultural, processing, and environmental operations.
• Must be able to use and wear required protective and safety equipment, which may include personal protective equipment and respiratory protection as appropriate.
• Must be willing and able to travel to remote facilities and drive extended distances as required.
