Summary

We are recruiting for an Accounting manager.  The Perdue Premium Meat Company (PPMC) Accountant Manager will work closely with the Director of Accounting for each of the PPMC business units to lead PPMC’s financial reporting and technical accounting functions. This will include duties relating to closing the books: coordinating the monthly closing process for the PPMC business units, preparing consolidated financial statements, completing balance sheet reconciliations and ensuring balance sheet reconciliations are complete and validated for the business units. This function will also include duties including assisting with forecast preparations, financial analysis and administrative support for the finance team.  Some travel required to other PPMC locations.  

Principal and Essential Duties & Responsibilities

1. Manages the accounting staff, including coverage of tasks, providing training and guidance, and conducting coaching and performance evaluations. The Manager is responsible for achieving the department’s accountabilities in compliance with all Internal Control Accounting policies, such as completing daily and weekly production reports, weekly estimates, KPI reporting, journal entries, balance sheet recs, and management reporting.

2. Perform monthly closing duties as assigned. Such duties shall include journal entries, balance sheet account reconciliations, cost allocations and disbursements, and provide system administrative support for the journal entry and account reconciliation accounting systems.  Strong analytical skills will be important to assist the PPMC business leads interpret their financial results and assist them with decision making.

3. Gain and maintain an understanding of each of the PPMC businesses in order to provide adequate support and analysis.

4. Maintain the integrity of Sage system.

5. Coordinate the Company’s period closing processes and perform period end closing activities including account reconciliation preparation and review, journal entry preparation and review, and other ad hoc reporting.

6. Prepare monthly consolidated financial statements on a month-to-date and year-to-date basis (balance sheet, income statement, and cash flow statement), including consolidating balance sheet and income statements by business and submitting to corporate accounting.

7.   Prepare and analyze quarterly reporting packages for stakeholders including Audit Committee schedules, Management’s Discussion & Analysis (MD&A), balance sheet analysis and consolidated bridge schedules.

8.  Assist in the annual independent financial audits of the company.  This involves activities such as the preparation of necessary schedules, assist with coordinating with the independent auditors, and facilitating the collection of all schedules throughout the company including those utilized for the footnotes in the consolidated financial statements.   

9.  Complete various year-end audit analyses, schedules, financial statement footnotes and ad-hoc information used to create the Company’s audited financial statements and annual report.

10. Ensure PPMC business units are in compliance with internal control procedures.

11. Develop and oversee the implementation of, and compliance with, business and accounting processes and procedures related to new accounting principles. 

12. Maintain the fixed asset records for PPMC. 

13.  Work closely with Perdue corporate accounting, tax, treasury and other corporate departments.

14.  Other duties as assigned. 

Minimum Education and Experience Required

Required:   BS/BA degree (Accounting or Accounting Concentration) plus at least 5 years of experience.

  • Must have GAAP knowledge. Strong PC skills with a proficiency in Microsoft Excel. 
  • Must be able to demonstrate good oral and written communication skills; demonstrate skill in team building and conflict resolution; demonstrate good planning, problem solving and analytical skills. 
  • Must be able to prioritize and organize work effectively. 

Preferred:

  • CPA or CMA, Sage 100 Experience
  • Proven track record of managing and developing direct reports

Environmental Factors and Physical Requirements

  1. Position is mostly sedentary but may require occasional moving to other offices or buildings.
  2. May need to move light equipment or supplies from one place to another.
  3. May need to access files, supplies and equipment.
  4. Work activity is in an office, open-partitioned, cubicle environment.
