Summary
To perform the daily care of live poultry at the farm. To perform complete breakdown/cleanout procedures. Performing duties related to research including following feeding programs, following weighing programs, and procedures.
This position has a target wage of $18.00 per hour. Overtime may be scheduled as needed and directed by management.
Work Schedule
- Hours of Work: Generally 6:00 am – 2:00 pm (with two 15 minute breaks and ½ hour for lunch) as scheduled by management with starting and quitting times varying according to workload and scheduling.
- Days of Work: Normally rotating 5 days/wk as scheduled by management and Sat., Sun., and Holidays if needed by operations and approved by management.
- Note: The hours and days of work are established as needed by operations and at the discretion of management and while generally as shown below may be changed (increased or decreased) by management as required.
Principal and Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Daily care and handling of live poultry under the guidelines of the Poultry Care Program including euthanasia of sick or injured birds and removing of mortality.
- Assist in data collection including weighing live birds, weighing and distribution of feed, preparing birds for processing, collecting biological samples, yield and meat quality information.
- Ensure research protocols and best practices of data collection are followed.
- Clean out and set up of poultry houses.
- Assist in egg sets, transfers, hatches and clean up at the hatchery.
- Assist in maintenance of poultry houses and equipment as assigned.
Minimum Education
- High School degree or equivalent preferred.
Experience Requirements
- Reading, Writing, and Math Skills.
Environmental Factors and Physical Requirements
The environmental factors and/or physical requirements of this position include the following:
- Exposure to all seasonal weather conditions.
- Exposure to a typical poultry house conditions including airborne dust, feathers, manure, ammonia gas up to 25 ppm and humidity up to 100%.
- Various chemical to be covered in the MSDS and Hazardous Communication Training.
- To move through mud, manure, dirt, grass, metal grading, concrete floors (wet or dry) with a significant amount of bending, twisting, stooping, lifting (up to 100 pounds), and walking 4 miles daily.
